Elizabeth Taylor Retrospective
Join us one Saturday each month at 6 PM for a big-screen celebration at the Historic Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Each screening is preceded by a 5 PM pre-show featuring vintage film ephemera from the year of the film’s release.
The series is hosted and introduced by author and film historian Matthew Kennedy (On Elizabeth Taylor: An Opinionated Guide). Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing at the screenings, courtesy of Best Bookstore Palm Springs.
Rediscover Elizabeth Taylor as she was meant to be seen—on the big screen.
Little Women (1949)
Director: Mervyn LeRoy
Starring: June Allyson, Elizabeth Taylor, Janet Leigh, Margaret O’Brien
Louisa May Alcott’s beloved story returns in a lush MGM adaptation that celebrates family, ambition, and the ache of growing up. The March sisters’ struggles and small triumphs before and after the Civil War are rendered with warmth, humor, and classical studio craftsmanship.
Taylor’s Amy is bubbly and amusingly haughty; she’s already star-caliber, stealing focus in a crowded ensemble. It’s an early example of her ability to make even supporting roles feel essential—and a snapshot of a future icon still on the rise.
