EASY LIVING

86 mins | Rated Unrated (screwball antics)

Get ready for more laughs and lunacy as Screwball Sundays are back with another season of fast-talking antics, outrageous plot twists, and unforgettable characters from the golden age of Hollywood! This year’s lineup brings you classic screwball comedies that continue to delight and surprise, proving that comedy truly never goes out of style.

Each film screens on the BIG SCREEN in our Historic Camelot Theatre and includes live introductions and Film Q + A sessions with the Film Society of Screwball Comedy, plus special guest appearances from renowned authors and film scholars, including Molly Haskell, Scott Eyman, Steven C. Smith, Mark Vieira, David Kalat, and Dr. Olympia Kiriakou.

APR 6 | 3 PM | EASY LIVING (1937)
Directed by Mitchell Leisen with a script by Preston Sturges, Easy Living is a quintessential screwball comedy about mistaken identity and the absurdities of high society. When a wealthy banker’s coat lands in the hands of a working-class girl, played by Jean Arthur, her life is turned upside down in the most hilarious way. This film’s rapid-fire dialogue and biting social commentary make it a timeless classic of the genre.

Guest Speaker + Book Signing | David Kalat
Mr. Kalat is the author of three books, including Too Funny for Words, A Contrarian History of American Screen Comedy from Silent Slapstick to Screwball (McFarland, 2019). He has contributed audio commentaries to numerous classic movies and written extensively for TCM and other publications. Mr. Kalat is the founder of All Day Entertainment, an independent DVD label whose mission is to rescue and promote forgotten motion pictures with artistic and entertainment value and historic importance that merit reappraisal. He has partnered with media companies Masters of Cinema, Kino-Lorber, the Criterion Collection, and Classic Media to bring attention to movies that “fell between the cracks”.
