THE MORE THE MERRIER

120 mins | Rated Unrated

Get ready for more laughs and lunacy as Screwball Sundays are back with another season of fast-talking antics, outrageous plot twists, and unforgettable characters from the golden age of Hollywood! This year’s lineup brings you classic screwball comedies that continue to delight and surprise, proving that comedy truly never goes out of style.

Each film screens on the BIG SCREEN in our Historic Camelot Theatre and includes live introductions and Film Q + A sessions with the Film Society of Screwball Comedy, plus special guest appearances from renowned authors and film scholars, including Molly Haskell, Scott Eyman, Steven C. Smith, Mark Vieira, David Kalat, and Dr. Olympia Kiriakou.

MAR 2 | 3 PM | THE MORE THE MERRIER (1943)
In this screwball comedy classic directed by George Stevens, the housing shortage in WWII-era Washington, D.C., sets the stage for romantic chaos. Jean Arthur plays a young woman whose apartment becomes unexpectedly crowded when a retired millionaire matchmaker, played by Charles Coburn (in an Oscar-winning performance), meddles in her love life. With sharp dialogue, clever misunderstandings, and unexpected heart, this film perfectly captures the screwball spirit.

Guest Speaker + Book Signing | Steven C. Smith
Mr. Smith is a film historian, author, and national speaker. He is a four-time Emmy nominated producer of over 200 documentaries, and has also authored A Heart at Fire’s Center, The Life And Music of Bernard Herrmann.
